Shortly before midnight last night; Fairhaven police and fire departments were called to Francis Street for a report of a person lying in the street. Responding EMS pronounced the victim dead at the scene. A Richard Martinez of New Bedford was taken into custody after he turned himself in several hours after the accident.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
