Man injured in fiery rollover crash

During the early evening hours of April 29th, the Massachusetts State Police as well as Andover fire/rescue personnel responded to Interstate 93 NB half a mile before the I-495 interchange for a rollover accident with a report of the car on fire.

I was minutes away from this when it was dispatched over the air so I took to the highway & headed for the scene.  Upon my arrival there were at least 2 vehicles involved 1 of which had lost control and subsequently traveled across all 4 lanes of the northbound side went airborne through a highway sign & finally coming to rest on it's side in the woods to the right side of the roadway and bursting into flames. A passerby in a vehicle identified as New Hampshire State Trooper Scott Frye; who was traveling with the  NH Governor; John Lynch & his wife; stopped to assist the occupant of the vehicles involved. Trooper Frye was able to remove the victim from the vehicle & pull him to the breakdown lane of the highway were he was met by arriving first responders. Trooper Frye did receive minor injuries (cuts & scrapes) & smoke inhalation as a result of the fire. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment & later released. The victim in the vehicle that was pulled to safety was transported to the Lawrence General Hospital for treatment by ambulance.

The 2 right lanes as well as the breakdown lane of the highway were shutdown so officials could work the scene. The roadway was completely open to all traffic around 8:30 PM

The investigation into the facts & circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police. It is unclear at this time if anyone will face charges as a result of the incident.
