Serious crash injures adult & young child inside the tunnels

Around 12:30 this morning the Massachusetts State Police along with Boston EMS and Fire Department converged on the I-93 NB tunnel by exit 24, the Government center exit for a reported rollover. First arriving troopers advised there was an adult female and a young child that were ejected from the flipped over vehicle. The Jaws of Life were utilized to extricate the occupants in the other vehicle also involved in the collision. Both the child and adult were transported to the Mass General Hospital. The child is said to have life threatening injuries. The 3 left lanes were shut down as state police reconstructed the scene for approximately 3 1/2 hours and reopened around 4 AM. There were significant delays trying to leave the city as a result. State police say charges are possible for both operators pending the investigation.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
