Fitchburg 2nd alarm 12/30/2011

Around 6:30 this afternoon. Fitchburg Fire officials answered the call to duty once again for a reported fire at 617 Water St. The building is a 3 story mill type structure owned by Northlander Manufacturing. Upon arrival fire fighters encountered fire in the basement and extending to the upper floors with a smoke condition thru-out and ordered the 2nd alarm bringing surrounding towns in as mutual aid. Crews from Lunenburg, Townsend, and Leominster responded. It was also reported via scanner transmissions that hydrants were dead & long hose lays were also needed. The fire was knocked down and under control in roughly an hour.
